The second instalment of Mrs M’s Scrapbook is now live, and this month it comes from the fabric chest and wool pantry.

I had wanted to make a start on a couple of tailoring projects this year: Merchant & Mill’s Strand Coat and Closet Case Pattern’s Jasika Jacket, but I’ve been in a bit of sewing funk mostly because I’ve been in a medication-induced body funk. To help me get over this I decided to make a tried-and-tested pattern: Merhcant & Mill’s Trapeze Dress but to really go to town on the finish.

I used the same fabric as I had used for the Stardust Skirt I talked about in episode 15 of the podcast and some paisley cotton lawn that I recovered from a True Bias’ Ogden Cami.

A delightful knit in familiar, comfortable Jamieson & Smith’s 2-ply Jumper Weight Shetland wool also helped me move past feeling “meh” about my body.

The Tonnach cardigan by Kate Davies, with its relaxed but not oversized shape and charming chevron lace pattern, is set become a pleasing addition to my sartorial armour.

I was originally tempted to knit this design in natural shades but two things persuaded me otherwise:

• the colours that Taylor (of the Thread’s to Mend Podcast) used in her Ola Yoke (design by Ella Gordon); and
• the coloured rings of the polypore Trametes versicolor, commonly known as Turkey Tail.

I conclude with a short announcement about an informal knitterly meet-up in Wakefield on Saturday 4 April, subject of course to any last minute cancellation due to advice relating to the coronavirus.
